North Jersey Events This Weekend: Things to Do September 26–27, 2026

Looking for North Jersey events this weekend? The last weekend of September normally brings fall festivals, cultural celebrations, live music, family activities, and Oktoberfest events across the area.

This weekend is a little different.

A nor’easter is affecting parts of New Jersey, bringing rain and strong winds. Some major outdoor events have already been postponed. That does not mean you have to stay home, but it does mean you should check event updates before heading out. If you are looking for something local in Passaic County, the City of Clifton Mexico Flag Raising is scheduled for Saturday, September 26.

Events like this are one of the reasons I enjoy working in Clifton. The city has a strong mix of neighborhoods and cultures, yet it still has that North Jersey community feel.

Fall Carnival at Pershing Field in Jersey City

The Jersey City Fall Carnival is currently scheduled to continue through Sunday, September 27 at Pershing Field Park.

Because of the weekend weather, however, I would confirm that the carnival is operating before making the drive.

Freestyle in the Heights in Jersey City

Another event scheduled for Saturday is Freestyle in the Heights 2026 at Pershing Field Park.

If the weather cooperates and organizers keep the event on schedule, this gives visitors another reason to spend Saturday afternoon or evening in the Heights.

Make sure you check with the organizer before traveling because this is another event that could be affected by wind and rain.

Jersey City Poetry Festival

If you would rather spend the weekend experiencing arts and culture, the Jersey City Poetry Festival 2026 is scheduled from September 25 through September 27.

This is one of the stronger choices for a rainy North Jersey weekend because portions of the programming are indoors.

Another indoor option this weekend is RENT: The Musical at Art House Productions.

For a weekend when outdoor plans are uncertain, having an indoor backup can make a lot of sense.

Visit the SAGA Annual Members Exhibition in Jersey City

Art lovers have another indoor option at Mana Contemporary.

The Society of American Graphic Artists' 91st Annual Members Exhibition is scheduled for Saturday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Jersey City Office of Cultural Affairs

Mana Contemporary is located at 888 Newark Avenue in Jersey City.

If you're planning a full Jersey City day, you could potentially combine an arts event with restaurants or other indoor activities nearby instead of depending entirely on outdoor plans.

Important Update: Morristown Festival on the Green Has Been Postponed

This is one of the biggest changes you need to know about this weekend.

If you were planning to head to Morristown this Sunday specifically for the festival, move that trip to next weekend.

Important Update: Baron's Oktoberfest in River Edge Has Been Rescheduled

Bergen County also has a weather-related change.

Historic New Bridge Landing is located at 1201 Main Street in River Edge, making this a future event worth putting on the calendar if you live in Bergen County.

What to Know Before Heading Out This Weekend

This is not the weekend to simply look at an old event post and jump in the car.
